What is a Liposuction?

To remove the excess body fat by suction a popular cosmetic surgery Liposuction is done. The surgery is normally performed by a plastic surgeon. With the help of Liposuction removes unwanted deposits of excess fats in order to improve body appearance especially the distorted body shapes. As it is useful for contouring under the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankle areas this procedure is also called as Body contouring.

Why is the Procedure performed?

Some of the uses of liposuction are as follows:

• For Cosmetic reasons including correction of an abnormal chin line, "love handles”, or fat bulges.
• For abnormal fat deposits removal from the inner thighs of the to improve sexual function.
• For people who are troubled by fatty lumps - Shaping of body or also for irregularities that cannot be taken care off by dieting and/or exercise.

How does the procedure work?

Liposuction procedures are of different types, viz:

• Tumescent liposuction: Often termed as Fluid Injection it is the most common type of liposuction. In this procedure almost three times of the volume of fat amount of medicated solution is injected into the areas. Local anesthesia drugs, Intravenous salt solution and drugs that contracts blood vessels make up this solution/mixture. The fat is removed by the IV solution which is suctioned along with the fat.
• Super-wet technique: It is not much different from tumescent liposuction. The difference being that amount of fat to be removed is just equal to the fluid used during the surgery.This technique is less time consuming as compared to other procedures.
• Ultrasound-assisted liposuction: In this technique to liquefy the fat cells ultrasonic vibrations are used. The cells are vacuumed out once they are liquefied. This procedure can be done in two ways. When done externally on the surface of the skin Ultrasonic vibrations are used with a special emitter. In internal procedure below the surface of the skin a heated cannula is used. Even from dense, fiber-filled (fibrous) areas of the body fat can be removed with the help of this technique.
