What is Blood Cancer?

The carcinoma of blood, bone marrow or the lymphatic system is termed as Blood cancer. Blood Cancer is mainly of three types:

• Leukemia: When the blood itself becomes malignant, or has Cancer of cells in it.
• Lymphoma: development of malignant tumors in lymph system, is called lymphoma.
• Myeloma: plasma cells cancer is called myeloma, Plasma cells produce antibodies and are found in the bone marrow.

Causes of Blood Cancer.

Blood cancer is caused due to diverse reasons. Following are the four possible causes:

• On exposure to natural or artificial ionizing radiation
• On intVke/ presence of Certain kinds of chemicals such as benzene in the body.
• Due to some viruses like human T-Lymphotropic Virus
• Because of certain Genetic factors.

Blood Cancer Symptoms

Anemia, recurrent infections, bone and joint pain, abdominal distress and difficult in breathing or dyspnea are some of the explicit leukemia blood cancer symptoms. Some other symptoms are as follows:

• Weakness, Breathlessness, Malaise , and weariness
• inbone fractures from minimal body strain
• gums, nose having unusual bleeding in
• enlargement of Lymph node (gland)
• enlarged abdominal organs leading to lumps or abdominal swelling, abdominal distension
• having repeated infections or fever

Blood Cancer Diagnosis

Blood cancer can be detected through the following test.

• Bone marrow biopsy
• Lymph node biopsy
• Blood tests

Blood Cancer Treatment

Patients with blood cancer require special treatment, as it is a bunch of cancers developed in the blood cells. These include:

• Chemotherapy: Anti cancer drugs of strong chemicals are given to the patient to kill the cancer cells.
• Radiation therapy: High- energy radiation rays are focused on cancer tumor cells to destroy the cancerous cells.
• Progenitor (Stem) Cell Transplantation
• Bone Marrow Transplantation.
• Interferon therapy: rate of reproduction of cancer cells is slowed down through this therapy thus giving our immunity system more time for anti-leukaemia activity.
